Tile Installation

Tile Installation in Boston, MA

Showers, floors, backsplashes, and custom tile work.

Tile is the most visible part of a bathroom and the least forgiving to install.

Boston Modern Bath installs tile in showers, on floors, on feature walls, and in kitchens, including large-format tile, natural stone, and custom layouts.

We prepare the substrate and waterproof wet areas before setting a single tile.

Materials

Tile We Work With

Material determines both the look and the installation method.

We install porcelain, ceramic, natural stone, marble, glass, and mosaic tile, in standard sizes as well as large-format panels.

Each material has its own requirements for substrate, cutting, setting material, and grout, which is why the installation method is decided per project rather than applied uniformly.

Layouts

Patterns and Layouts

Layout is decided before the first tile is set.

Straight set, stacked, offset, herringbone, chevron, basketweave, and mixed-format layouts each change the look of the room and the amount of cutting required.

We plan the layout around the room so that cuts fall where they are least visible and lines run correctly through corners, niches, and transitions.

Workmanship

What Makes Tile Work Last

The parts of the job that stay hidden.

Most tile failures are not caused by the tile.

They come from an uneven or unstable substrate, missing or incomplete waterproofing, incorrect setting material, or poorly planned movement joints.

Our process addresses the substrate first: surfaces are leveled and prepared, wet areas are waterproofed as a system, and setting materials are selected for the specific tile and location.

The visible result — consistent grout lines, clean corners, properly finished edges — follows from that preparation.
